About me

I can provide a wide range of goods and services. From historical costume to modern wedding dresses, and from historical interpretation to schools visits.

I have been making historical costumes since 1987. In this time I have made costumes for a wide range of clients including Past Pleasures (Hampton Court Palace, the Tower of London and the Mary Rose Trust), JMD & Co (Hampton Court Palace), Warwick Castle, Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust, National Trust, Arbeia Roman Fort & Museum.

However as well as making costumes for professionals and museums I also make clothes for dancers and re-enactment. The clothes that I make are all carefully researched and are made using appropriate fabrics in suitable colours and using period techniques. All this expertise may sound expensive but I think that you will find that my prices are very competitive.

I am an experienced embroiderer and can produce high quality hand embroidery of all periods. I specialise in Tudor and Jacobean Embroidery.

As you can see from my gallery I can also make make period inspired, traditional or contemporary wedding dresses & ball gowns. I also make party clothes and traditional christening gowns for children. If you've seen something that you like but cannot afford then it is likely that I can make something similar at a lower price.

I make masks too – see my gallery page.

I am a costume historian. My main area of research is Early Modern lower class costume. For my list of publications see my publications page. I am available to give talks on historical fashion and on the making of historical costume, but also on a wide range of social history subjects – again see my publications page to find out those areas I have done research in.

I have worked as a professional costumed interpreter at Hampton Court Palace and am available as a guide lecturer for that palace. If you would like to book a private tour of the palace with me then please contact Ursula Williams at the palace to make the arrangements. I am also now working at Milestones museum in Basingstoke as a costumed interpreter.

Finally I am available to give talks and workshops in schools. I have also led seminars for teaching staff to help them improve their presentation of Tudor social history.
